Back

Hello fellow bloggers who I have missed,

Ben and I have moved into our new house and it's lovely. Curtains are the only thing left to sort. We'll photograph later once we've tidied up!

Are Christians a whole group of phonies who pretend to be better than they really are? The more I get to know some Christians the more I wonder if we are any different from anyone else in the way we live and act. /ponder.

Come on, dish the dirt, in a non-specific way. Who's got your goat?

I think Christians often do 'live better,' but they often undermine that by not being honest about the moments when they don't.

Welcome to your new abode!

Christians are quite good at building up a pretend world. I try quite hard to be honest but I'm still trying to work out if this is a good thing!

I would be quite interested to read/discuss with you how you're going about keeping your hands off Ben now you live in close proximity! ;-) If there's anyone who can do it, it's you but in a way I feel you will have a huge burden of people's (Christians) expectations of living up to certain standards. How are you going to cope with that and how can we support you? I think economically you have done the right thing and The Church should support you as much as possible to do what you need to do. So you tell us and we'll try not to be phonies and really be there to help/support you. That's what being a Christian is about for me...

Many are, hopefully some aren't. I am.

Interesting article here by an atheist: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Columnists/Column/0,5673,1567612,00.html

No I don't think any of you guys are. (Well maybe we all are to some extent but in general you guys are all fantastic and people with integrity).

It just annoys me when I get to know someone better and find out that the initial perception I had of them from what they portray to the world is waaaaay holier than they really are.

And that wasn't in any way related to the first paragraph btw!

I might blog a little on that sometime.

You know, it's funny that you should say that, because this was exactly my experience of Christians (having been one myself). And this fact is part of why I decided to drop CHristianity. Obviously there is the argument that what really matters is your own relationship with God, however what others do around you deeply affects that. I think it is hard to follow evangelical-style Christian philosophy and reconcile the diverse ways in which others interpret and apply the scriptures. There does not seem to be enough room within (typically) evangelical philosophy to accommodate deviation from some issues simply because the interpretation of the scriptures is so constrained.
